Lincoln Chafee, the former Senator from Rhode Island endorsed Barack Obama today stating that “Senator Obama is the best candidate to restore American credibility, to restore our confidence, to be moral and just, and to bring people together to solve the complex issues such as the economy, the environment and global stability.” What adds intrigue to this story is that McCain campaigned for Chafee in his unsuccessful Senate reelection bid in 2006…ouch.

What’s the matter with PA?
Posted by gopinder on February 14, 2008
It looks like the Mason-Dixon Line is one state too south. Why? Just let Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell explain that to you.
A Bob Casey endorsement would be helpful to Obama at this point, but then again, isn’t PA the state that chose Rick “man-on-dog” Santorum to be their two-term senator? Pennsylvania Democrats — an interesting breed.

Clinton up substantially in Ohio and Pennsylvania
Posted by gopinder on February 14, 2008
In a new Quinnipac University poll, Clinton is up 55% to 34% and 52% to 36% in Ohio and Pennsylvania, respectively.
Furthermore, at a GM plant in Ohio, Clinton explained that “speeches don’t put food on the table. Speeches don’t fill up your tank, or fill your prescription, or do anything about that stack of bills that keeps you up at night.”
Ohio and Pennsylvania seem to be “bread and butter” states. Their demographics favor Clinton (a significant portion of white people), and the primary issue is the economy. Obama’s strength so far has been Iraq; however, in anticipation of the importance of the economy in the upcoming states, he released an economic plan yesterday (briefly explained in the link above). If Obama wants to close the gap in these states, he’ll have to connect with people on the economy.
